Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect:

  • Email address (required)
  • Language preference (automatically detected)

Your email address and language preference are stored by Beehiiv, our newsletter provider (see Third-Party Services below). When you submit the subscription form, your IP address and a bot-protection token are also processed by Cloudflare to verify the request and prevent abuse.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the Site, certain information may be collected automatically through Umami Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics platform. Umami does not use cookies, does not track you across websites, and anonymizes IP addresses. The information collected includes:

  • Anonymized IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Referring website

Under the GDPR, we process your data based on the following legal grounds:

  • Consent — When you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide explicit consent for us to collect and use your email address to send you emails. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
  • Legitimate interest — We use Umami Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve content and user experience. Because Umami anonymizes all data and does not use cookies, the impact on your privacy is minimal.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Send you newsletter emails you’ve subscribed to
  • Personalize content based on your language preference
  • Analyze Site usage to improve content and user experience
  • Protect against spam and abuse

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

Umami Analytics

Site analytics are provided by Umami, a privacy-focused platform that does not use cookies, does not track users across websites, and anonymizes all IP addresses. Umami does not share data with third parties. Learn more at their Privacy Policy.

Beehiiv

Our newsletter is delivered by Beehiiv. When you subscribe, your email address and language preference are transmitted to and stored by Beehiiv, which manages our subscriber list and sends the emails you request. Beehiiv processes this data on our behalf as a data processor. See their Privacy Policy for details.

Cloudflare

When you submit the newsletter form, the request is handled by a Cloudflare Worker, and bot protection is provided by Cloudflare Turnstile. In the course of verifying the submission and applying rate limiting, Cloudflare processes your IP address, browser and device signals, and request metadata. Turnstile is designed as a privacy-preserving alternative to traditional CAPTCHAs. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy for details.

Fly.io

The Site is hosted on Fly.io. Fly.io may process your IP address and request metadata (such as headers and timestamps) as part of normal server operations. See their Privacy Policy for details.

International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed outside your country of residence. Our third-party service providers — including Beehiiv, Cloudflare, and Fly.io — are based in the United States and may process data in various global locations. These providers maintain their own data protection practices, which you can review through the privacy policy links above.

If you are located in the EU/EEA, these transfers may involve sending data to countries that do not have the same level of data protection as the European Economic Area. We rely on our service providers’ safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your data during transfer.

Data Retention

Newsletter subscription data is retained by Beehiiv until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Analytics data is retained for up to 26 months. You can request deletion of your data at any time.

Your Rights

Under GDPR (EU/EEA Residents)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

  • Access - Request a copy of your personal data
  • Rectification - Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure - Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Portability - Request your data in a portable format
  • Object - Object to processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent - Unsubscribe from emails at any time
  • Lodge a complaint - File a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully

Under CCPA (California Residents)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to:

  • Know - Request what personal information we collect and how it is used
  • Delete - Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt-out - Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell your data)
  • Non-discrimination - Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights

Cookies and Local Storage

This Site does not use cookies for analytics or tracking. Our analytics provider (Umami) is entirely cookie-free and does not track you across websites.

When you interact with the newsletter form, Cloudflare Turnstile may set a strictly necessary cookie to verify that the request is genuine and to protect against spam and abuse. This cookie is used solely for bot protection, is not used to track you across websites, and is not set unless you engage with the form.

We use browser localStorage for the following:

  • Theme preference - Stores your light/dark mode choice

localStorage is not a cookie, is not sent to any server, and does not track you across sites. Language preference is determined by the URL path, not stored locally.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal with each request. This Site does not use cookies or cross-site tracking, so your browsing behavior is not tracked regardless of your DNT setting.

Children’s Privacy

This Site is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
